Kingsize.ie was established by Roscommon man Justin Dixon in 2010 in response to a demand by bigger men for fashionable large size clothes. We are a proud Irish company, who sell worldwide. Every order is processed in our Galway store, and we endeavour to be the best in our field, offering a large range of well-known brands in sizes that fit, and to always be accessible to our customers.
Kingsize was established in Dixon Menswear Longford, which only sold sizes from small to 2xl. In October 2009, during the recession, three customers asked for products in larger sizes, all in the same week, all explaining the difficulty they had getting such clothing. With plans to close the shop after Christmas, as trade was very bad, we enquired about stocking bigger sizes, and eventually found a brand that would supply us. The following week we got a delivery of 20 pieces of 3xl and 4xl polos, jumpers, and shirts. We called the 3 guys who enquired a few weeks earlier and within 2 days we had sold 19 of the 20 pieces. Plans of closure were put on hold, and Kingsize was born.
In the summer of 2010 we took our first seasonal delivery of Plus sizes, built our website, kingsize.ie, and a few weeks later, had our first online sale in Mohill, Co. Leitrim, Ireland. Even typing this, I’m smiling as I wanted to walk to Mohill with that parcel.
The following Spring, we opened our first Kingsize shop in Galway and the following year, 2012, we opened in Dublin. Over the years we have added a tall range and a footwear range to our offering and are now Irelands leading big and tall menswear retailer.
We closed our Longford shop in 2012 as it became clear that, to offer our customers all they needed, we had to concentrate on big sizes only. We would like to thank all our customers in Longford, especially those three men who asked the question, all those years ago. We are very grateful for all who have shopped and continue to shop with us.
